Anchored Earth Retention
A joint ADSC-DFI committee of industry-wide professionals who design, construct and supply equipment for temporary and permanent support of retaining structures using ground anchor techniques, such as tiebacks and soil nails. The committee visits the state of practice regularly through seminars and workshops, reviews and prepares guidance documents and specifications, and conducts practice-oriented research projects that advance the industry.

Committee Co-chair

Wagman Heavy Civil
erlaczynski@wagman.com
Ed holds degrees from Virginia Tech and George Washington University, and professional engineering licenses in several states. He is Vice President of Geotechnical Construction for Wagman Heavy Civil, a large general infrastructure contractor. Ed performs in house deep foundation work for the Heavy Highway and Building companies, and he manages Wagman’s work as a foundation and specialty geotechnical subcontractor. His background is in design/build, temporary and permanent anchored retaining systems, and foundation systems.

Committee Co-chair
Jeff Segar, P.E., S.E.
GeoStabilization International
jeff.segar@gsi.us
After two decades as a consultant Jeff joined GeoStabilization International (GSI) where he is a Deputy Chief Engineer. He has been the Engineer of Record and responsible for project related design and production of construction documents for many types of structures and geostructures. He currently provides GeoStructural engineering services for support of excavation, slope stabilization, soil nailing, and micropiles. Jeff currently serves on the board of directors for ADSC: the International Association of Foundation Drilling.

Research
- Limitations of 80% anchor unbonded length criterion for long anchors – Analysis of anchor load test data to determine potential limitations of this standard performance criterion
- Epoxy coating study – laboratory study comparing the performance of epoxy coatings used on tiebacks, soil nails, and micropiles.
S3: Slope Slides and Stabilization
One of the lead committees for this conference and software discussion held annually on the effective application of deep foundations, ground improvement, and soil mixing for stabilization of slopes and excavation support. Links to software discussion videos.
